Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since March of that year.

Victory also signifies he has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and compete positively, supported by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet defended four initial opportunities in a close final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the net area, with his opponent failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
